Urgent Request to Call Mayor Bowser and Councilmember Lewis George to Delay the Destruction of 60 Trees

The trees will fall on Monday, Feb. 6th.

Call Mayor Bowser
Call Councilmember Lewis George

Demand that this irreversible action be delayed!

  1. Mayor Bowser - telephone: 202-727-264; email: eom@dc.gov
  2. Councilmember Lewis George - telephone: 202-724-8052; email: jlewisgeorge@dccouncil.us
  • Your voice is important.
  • Collective voices are powerful. Numbers matter.
  • If you think the trees are worth saving, don’t wait! Act now!
  • Please ask like-minded friends and neighbors to do the same.
  • Only growing public outrage can save 60+ trees.

Talking Points:

  1. This is in regard to the Maret Sports Complex proposed on Nebraska Ave.
  2. We question the Urban Forestry Division issuance of the tree permits to take down the trees on the leased land from the Episcopal Center for Children without the BZA written order and all required construction permits. We believe the permit to remove the trees was issued prematurely.
  3. We ask for reasonableness. We ask you to intervene to stop this imminent, irreversible destruction of over 60 trees.
  4. The property could remain in a treeless state indefinitely, increasing stormwater run-off, the number one cause of environmental degradation.
