Friends of the Field has Party Status!

At a Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) hearing on January 12, 2022, our attorney, Ed Donohue, requested that Friends of the Field receive Party Status in Maret's request for zoning relief for its proposed sports complex on the ECC field (case #20643: Maret School) The BZA is where applicants go to request waivers from zoning regulations for construction projects. Party status means we are able to participate in a meaningful way during BZA deliberations.

According to our Request for Party Status Application: "A party has the right to cross-examine witnesses, submit proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law, receive a copy of the written decision of the ZC or BZA, submit a Motion for Reconsideration or Rehearing, and exercise any other rights of parties as specified in the Zoning Regulations. Approval of party status is contingent upon the requester clearly demonstrating that his or her interest will be more significantly, distinctively, or uniquely affected by the proposed zoning action than that of other persons."

Of note during the BZA hearing on Jan. 12:

  • BZA Board member Lorna Jones recused herself because she has family connections to Maret.
  • BZA Board members were clearly moved by our 200+ members.

Thank you Friends of the Field members and supporters!
